Eurasian Bullfinch
Latin: Pyrrhula pyrrhula (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Domherre
Deutsch: Gimpel
Shows up in the winter
The Eurasian bullfinch builds its nests deep in coniferous forests. In the winter, though, it comes out to eat seeds from your bird feeder! You’ll usually hear its call before you see one. If you call back, it might even come to you.
Eurasian bullfinches occasionally nest around Uppland, with about 15,000 mating pairs. This bullfinch can fly shorter distances in the winter, but many stay in Uppland. Those that do head south will come back in March.
