Parrot Crossbill

Latin: Loxia pytyopsittacus (Borkhausen 1793)
Svenska: Större korsnäbb
Deutsch: Kiefernkreuzschnabel

’Parrot-nose’
The parrot crossbill has a powerful bent beak. Its beak is a precision instrument used to pick out seeds from inside pine cones.

Parrot crossbills are found all over upland, mostly in pine forests.

This bird tends to be more active in the winter, and might even fly northwards where it’s colder!
