Long-eared Owl

Latin: Asio otus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Hornuggla
Deutsch: Waldohreule

Begging fluffballs
The long-eared owl’s fluffy chicks hop out of the nest before they learn to fly. You can hear their begging cry in summer nights in July, usually around meadows and farmland.

The long-eared owl lives near cultivated ground all over Uppland.

These owls migrate in October to Western and Central Europe, returning in March or April. A few spend the winter in Uppland every year. In a mild winter, several hundred owls might spend the winter here.
