Stoat (Ermine)
Latin: Mustela erminea (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Hermelin
Deutsch: Hermelin
Black-tipped tail
Just like other mustelidae (family including otters, badgers, weasels, and others), the stoat is both quick and shy. But, if you notice a black-tipped tail, you can be sure it’s a stoat. Its tail tip stays black throughout the year, appearing in both the white winter pelt and brown summer pelt.
Stoats are found over most of Uppland, and they remain active all winter.
