Pine Grosbeak

Latin: Pinicola enucleator (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Tallbit
Deutsch: Hakengimpel

The bold one
The pine grosbeak is a large finch which sometimes shows up in Uppland. It is quite bold, and is not easily scared away.

Pine grosbeaks build their nest deep in the forests of Norrland. The closest nesting places to Uppsala are in northern Dalarna county.

Nearly every winter, you can see pine grosbeaks in Uppland. Some winters they are quite common, and you can find many of them eating the rowan tree’s berries. Other winters there may be only a few.
