Common Redshank
Latin: Tringa totanus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Rödbena
Deutsch: Rotschenkel
Divided parental care
When the common redshank lays its eggs, both parents help out. If something comes too close, they will fly up into the air near the troublemaker and produce a loud warning call.
Today, common redshanks are actually relatively uncommon in Uppland. They might be found around pastures near the coast, or around shore meadows around inland lakes.
Common redshanks migrate in July or August to Western Europe and the Mediterranean, returning in April.
