The mussel crusher
Herring gulls have their own specialty. Mussels have hard shells which the gulls cannot open with their beaks, so instead, they drop the mussels from high above to break them against the rocks.
Herring gulls are found around all of Uppland’s coasts and lakes.
Anywhere from July to November, they migrate to the coast of Denmark or to the southern Baltic Sea, returning in April.
