Mew Gull
Latin: Larus canus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Fiskmås
Deutsch: Sturmmöwe
The bird of prey ‘alarm’
Mew gulls do not tolerate birds of prey. They chase away all predators that come too close to their dwelling with a high-pitched cry. Ospreys, harriers, and goshawks are loudly attacked by the hot-tempered mew gull.
Mew gulls are found all over Uppland.
From July to December, mew gulls migrate to the North Sea countries and to the southern Baltic Sea. They return to Uppland in March or April.
