Goosander
Latin: Mergus merganser (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Storskrake
Deutsch: Gänsesäger
Big fisher
Many goosanders gather in the autumn and fish together by swimming in a line and directing shoals of fish toward the beach. Then they dive down into the water and begin to feed on the closely assembled fish.
Goosanders live by the coast, by watercourses and lakes all over Uppland.
Between October and January, goosanders migrate to the southern Baltic Sea and return near the end of March. Many goosanders spend the winter in Uppland, but only if there is no ice.
