Common Sandpiper
Latin: Actitis hypoleucos (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Drillsnäppa
Deutsch: Flussuferläufer
Nervous tail-wagger
The common sandpiper often sits near the beach and nervously wags its tail. It is easily frightened, and flies close to the surface of the water as it sings its trilling song.
The common sandpiper is found along the coast and by lakes and watercourses throughout Uppland. It is especially common along the Fyris river and Ekoln beach. Why not take a stroll in Morga Hage? You can hear the sandpiper’s trill there in the summertime.
From the beginning of July to September, these birds migrate all the way to Africa, south of the Sahara. They return in the beginning of May.
