Sedge Warbler
Latin: Acrocephalus schoenobaenus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Sävsångare
Deutsch: Schilfrohrsänger
Peek-a-boo
The sedge warbler is hard to get a look at due to its camouflage colours, and the fact that it lives in a jungle of reeds. But, you might catch a glimpse of one while it sings! The male usually peeks out of his hiding place while singing.
There are over 14,000 nesting pairs in Uppland. You can find them in areas with lots of reeds and shrubs. If you want to hear a sedge warbler, head to Övre Föret or Hjälsaviken near the end of May.
From the end of August to September, the sedge warbler migrates to tropical Africa. In the spring, it normally comes back around the 10th of May onward.
