Linnaeus’ Jumkil Trail

Do you want to experience the forests of Norrland… in Uppsala? Maybe the Jumkil trail is right for you! This trail is a comfortable walking path that goes through what Swedes call a troll’s forest (or magic forest), with large boulders and old trees. Inside the forest, you might see a crested tit or a gold-crested wren. Near the end of the trail, you’ll walk on a narrow boardwalk over a marsh. You might see black grouse there, eating buds off the birches. Sundew, a carnivorous plant, also grows on the sphagnum moss! The stately King Karl’s sceptre (Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum) blooms here as well, in the middle of July. The Jumkil trail ends by Studentvilan, a nice spot for grilling by the peatland’s edge.
