Silver Birch
Latin: Betula pendula (Albrecht Wilhelm Roth)
Svenska: Vårtbjörk
Deutsch: Hänge-Birke
Russian pollen
When the birch tree blooms, it scatters its pollen in the wind. Many people are allergic to birch pollen. Often, those with allergies will have troubles even before the Uppland birches begin to bloom. They are likely reacting to pollen travelling all the way from Russia and the Baltics!
The silver birch is common in drier forests.
The leaves of the birch tree sprout in early May, at the same time as the tree is blooming. It drops its leaves in late September or early October.
