Goldcrest
Latin: Regulus regulus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Kungsfågel
Deutsch: Wintergoldhähnchen
The littlest
The goldcrest is the smallest bird in Europe. It wears its 'golden crown' proudly... maybe it won first prize for being the littlest?
Goldcrests can be found in spruce forests all over Uppland. You might see one in the City Forest (Stadsskogen), in Fiby Urskog, or along Linneaus' Jumkil path.
Young goldcrests migate southwards to central and western Europe in October, returning in April. The majority of older birds stay in Uppland, but many may die during especially cold winters.
