Goshawk

Latin: Accipiter gentilis
Svenska: Duvhök
Deutsch: Habicht

Hunter of the forest
The goshawk is the predatory bird of the forest. It flies unhindered through dense forest. The female is considerably larger than the male and can take larger prey such as hares and capercaillie, which are especially important to their winter diet.

Goshawks are found in forests throughout Uppland. In Stockholm and Uppsala, they might also be seen in the city.

Older goshawks stay in Uppland all winter. Younger birds fly farther in the winter, but don’t have any regular overwintering area.

There is a goshawk on display in the Biolab here at Biotopia.
