Green Sandpiper
Latin: Tringa ochropus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Skogssnäppa
Deutsch: Waldwasserläufer
Highest nest
The green sandpiper is the only European shorebird who lays her eggs above ground. She will use an abandoned nest in a spruce or a pine tree, left behind by thrushes, wood pigeons, or squirrels.
Green sandpipers are found all over Uppland, but are not particularly common.
This bird migrates in July and August to the Mediterranean and to tropical Africa, returning in early April.
