Coal Tit
Latin: Periparus ater (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Svartmes
Deutsch: Tannenmeise
Spider-eater
The coal tit eats spiders, aphids, and insect larvae. In the winter, though, it's a vegetarian, picking Norway spruce seeds out of the cones with it's tiny beak.
Coal tits can be found in coniferous and mixed forests all over Uppland. To see one, you should head to the City Forest (Stadsskogen) or along Linneaus' Jumkil path.
This bird is not normally migratory. Occasionally, large numbers of coal tits arrive from the Sea of Åland in the autumn.
