Eurasian Woodcock
Latin: Scolopax rusticola (Linné 1758)

Making the rounds
When the male Eurasian woodcock wants to attract females, he has a special flight routine at dawn and dusk. While he is flying, he produces a distinctive call with the sound of 'knorr knorr pssst!' Occasionally, the females will join the males' routine for a short time.
The Eurasian woodcock is quite common in Uppland.
In October, these birds migrate to western and southwestern Europe, returning in mid-March. It is likely that some Eurasian woodcocks will spend the winter in Uppland.
