The European green woodpecker loves ants. If you walk by an anthill and see big holes in it, you can be fairly certain that it is the work of the green woodpecker. It pecks deep holes in anthills to catch ants, all year round.

European green woodpeckers are found throughout Uppland. They stay through the winter.
