Lingonberry (Cowberry)
Latin: Vaccinium vitis-idaea (Linné 1753)
Svenska: Lingon
Deutsch: Preiselbeere
Upside-down flower
The lingonberry's bell-shaped flower contains nectar that bumblebees love. The bumblebees grab hold of the outer edge of the flower and hang upside-down while lapping up nectar with their tongues.
Lingonberry grows in drier forest land and clear cut areas throughout Uppland.
The lingonberry plant blooms from May to June, and its fruit often ripens in August. Its leaves remain green all through the winter, unlike the blueberry plant. If you want to pick lingonberries, head over to the drier parts of Nåsten.
