Field Fences in the Forest
Field Fences in the Forest
Have you seen the ’field fences’ pictured here in a forest before? They are remnants from the time when cows grazed in the forest. One hundred years ago, it was quite normal for a farmer to let his cows graze in the forest. This meant that the forest became much more open than it is today. It was often children who herded the animals, and to make it easier for them, these field fences were built around the fields and meadows. The contrary is done today – we build fences around the animals to keep them in!
