Bluethroat

Latin: Luscinia svecia (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Blåhake
Deutsch: Blaukehlchen

Songmaster of the North
The songmaster of the North is found in the bushlands of the mountains. Erik Rosenberg, an expert in birdsong, has described the bluethroat’s song as a cascade of tones, bell chimes, double tones, and cling clangs with a simultaneous humming accompaniment. Listen below!

The bluethroat is a Norrland bird, and the nearest nesting sites are in Dalarna. However, you have a good chance to see the bluethroat in Uppland during the fall. Keep a close eye on reedy areas in September.

Bluethroats fly through Uppland in September, and will often rest here. The little bluethroat flies all the way to South Asia where it will spend the winter. In the second half of May, it will pass by on its way northwards, but it doesn’t take the time to rest!
