Meadow Pipit
Latin: Anthus pratensis (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Ängspiplärka
Deutsch: Wiesenpieper
Perfectly camouflaged
The meadow pipit is very good at hiding. It is nearly invisible when it creeps around in the grass. Its camouflage makes it hard for predators to find it (but hard for you as well!). Even when it is frightened, it is careful. The meadow pipit only makes a little 'psssit'...
Meadow pipits eat insects and spiders in the summertime, and might eat grass, cranberries, seeds from sedges, and other such plant parts during the rest of the year.
The meadow pipit builds its nest in open areas throughout Uppland.
These birds migrate to the western Mediterranean from September to November, returning to Uppland in late March.
