Spotted Redshank
Latin: Tringa erythropus (Pallas 1764)
Svenska: Svartsnäppa
Deutsch: Dunkle Wasserläufer
Sometimes a swimmer
The spotted redshank is a wading bird who looks for food in shallow water. It swims sometimes, too. Perhaps when the water becomes too deep?
The closest spotted redshank nests are in northern Norrland. If you want to see one, head to Hjälstaviken in early May or late July.
These birds fly past Uppland in May on their way northwards and in June to September on their way southwards.
