Dunnock

Latin: Prunella modularis (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Järnsparv
Deutsch: Heckenbraunelle

(not in diorama)

Ladies' choice
The male dunnock love to sit in the treetops and sing. He attract females, who he will then mate with. The females aren't satisfied with one male, though - they will often mate with another as well!

Dunnocks are common in spruce forests throughout Uppland. They were however not always so common in the county. They only began to nest here in the early 1900's. If you want to hear a dunnock for yourself, walk among the spruce trees in the City Forest (Stadsskogen).

The dunnock migrates southwards in September and October, flying to France and Spain where it will spend the winter. It will normally return to Uppland in early April.
