Ring Ouzel
Latin: Turdus torquatus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Ringtrast
Deutsch: Ringdrossel
A banded bird
The ring ouzel is black, just like the blackbird, though with a white half-moon on its breast. The blackbird is very common, though the ring ouzel is not. The only time these birds are seen in Uppland is while they are on their way to or from the mountains!
The closest ring ouzel nests are in Dalarna. Three centuries ago, though, they nested in the Uppland archipelago.
Ring ouzels can be seen in the springtime. They spend the winter by the Mediterranean Sea.
