Eurasian Dotterel

Latin: Charadrius morinellus (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Fjällpipare
Deutsch: Mornellregenpfeifer

Magical transporter?
The Eurasian dotterel is a ‘magical’ bird. All of a sudden, they are just sitting there. Eighty birds in the middle of the plain, and nobody saw how they got there - almost as if they used a magical transporter. Then, they disappear after a day or two, just as sudden as they appeared.

Eurasian dotterels build their nests high up in the mountains. The closest nesting place to Uppsala is in northern Dalarna. Occasionally, a flock of Eurasian dotterels might show up near Lövstaslätten in late May.

These birds pass by Uppland in late September. They spend the winter in Northern Africa, and you may glimpse them in late May as they pass by on their way back north
