Greater Scaup
Latin: Aythya marila (Linné 1758)
Svenska: Bergand
Deutsch: Bergente
Mountain or coastal bird?
When it comes to habitat, is an archipelago similar to a mountain? Well, that’s what the Greater scaup thinks. It lives in both types of habitat: by clear mountain lakes and around the Baltic Sea's archipelago.
Only a few Greater scaups nest in Uppland every year. They tend to stay close to the coast.
The Greater scaup spends the winter by the southern Baltic Sea or along the coast of the North Sea. It migrates in September and October and returns from April to May.
