The laugher
The willow ptarmigan tends to ‘laugh’ at people who disturb it. It flies up into the air and emits a laughing sound.
The nearest nesting place for willow ptarmigan is in Dalarna. These birds have only been seen twice in Uppland: in 1919 one was shot in Knubty, and in 1970 two ptarmigan were spotted in Nora.
Willow ptarmigan tend to stay in their home territory all winter.
